The Weather in Borrones
Las Médulas is located in the comarca of Bierzo in León. Is considered the largest gold mine open pit of the whole Roman Empire, being this one of the most disturbing and beautiful landscapes of the peninsula. The Médulas was in its origin a Roman exploitation of gold open pit, although the pre-Roman indigenous peoples had already exploited the site.

Surely the Romans began working in this area at the time of Emperor Octavian Augustus the first emperor of the Roman Empire, ruled between 27a.C and 14DC was the Roman Emperor with the more prolonged kingdom in the history.
Las Médulas is a World Heritage by UNESCO
The environment has been declared of Cultural Interest in 1996 by its archeology and Natural Monument in 2002. In 1997 it was declared by Unesco as World Heritage Site, although the delegation of Thailand was opposed to this decision considering that the place is the result of the destructive human activity, Germany and Finland were agreed with this position.

|The park has 1,115 hectares. The highest peak of the park is the Pico Ferradillo with 1345 m.|
|Fauna||In mammals we have: wild boar, genet, badger, dormouse, rabbit, hare, cattle and horses, among others. In birds we have: the goshawk, wood pigeon, the tawny owl, the hawk and the grouse among others.|
|Flora||Brooms, rockrose, gorse, heather, carqueixas, willows, alders, poplars, oaks, chestnut, walnut, pastures and crops.|

How is the Natural Park of Las Médulas
The current appearance of the Natural Park of Las Médulas is due to the methodology used by the Romans to extract the mineral. This consisted dam up water on top of the mountains with filtration and pressure ended breaking it and dragging the auriferous lands until washings.
The works to be performed to extract the mineral, along with the passage of time and the erosion have been configured one of the historical–archeological sites with increased value and beauty of Spain.
Today, this place is small red hills, covered with vegetation, especially chestnut and oak, being considered a Cultural Landscape. Furthermore The Natural Park of Las Médulas has been awarded the title of Cultural Park.

Walking through Las Médulas
In the Natural Park you can perform different trekking routes, also you can enjoy the remains of this ancient gold deposit. With its red hills combined with the green vegetation that has grown since mining was abandoned. This landscape can be seen through the following routes that we propose:
