The Templar Castle in Ponferrada has been declared a National Historic Artistic Monument in 1924. This castle is a magnificent well-preserved building that was built first on a I castrate and later on a Roman citadel.
The visit to this beautiful castle is a good opportunity to spend a great time with the family, where we can leave fly the imagination and travel to medieval times.
Its great condition of conservation allows us to admire: battlements, drawbridge, donjon, moat, courtyard, cellar, stables, armory, etc.
Inside the castle we can also enjoy the Templar Library with the Center for Research and Historical Studies of Ponferrada that has over 1,400 books.
Some of these books can be seen on the permanent exhibition “Templum Libri“ where has facsimiles of medieval works, some of them such famous authors as Leonardo Da Vinci.
