When Antonio Gaudí was commissioned the Casa Botines, was a challenge to make his mark without be out of tune with the style of the city, full of beautiful historic buildings. For this reason, he needed to find a balance between his modernist style and gothic predominant in the city of Leon. The result of this balance is the Casa Botines, a neo-gothic building in modernist style.

The mix of austerity medieval and modernist elements give the building an aspect fairytale without be out of tone with the elegance of the other monuments of Leon.
The four towers of the corners and its sloping deck give the building a distinctive Gothic look.

But Gaudí was not only a genius, he was also an effective performer when you let him work , the building was constructed in just 10 months.
It was a record considering the high degree of artesanal elements used, astonishing the Leonese citizens of the time (1894).

The Casa Botines is located on the central Plaza de San Marcelo where besides other iconic buildings such as the Old Town Hall, there is intense activity. Among all this activity, Leon citizens have reserved a park bench to Antonio Gaudi, who always is sitting taking notes in front of his building.
