Looking for the best deals for Palencia AT THIS MOMENT …
As every year, the Las Edades del Hombre Foundation organizes one of the most important religious art exhibitions in the world.
On this occasion, the chosen location is Aguilar de Campoo, and how could it be otherwise, the theme chosen is the mountain. In the mountains of Palencia, Aguilar de Campoo is the perfect location for this exhibition, a region planted with Romanesque temples that oozes history and culture in all its corners.
“Mons Dei” or “Mount of the Lord” will deal with the relationship of the mountain with God, and therefore, the relationship of man with God through the mountain. This relationship is not only present in all religions, but is also the cornerstone of atheist thinking, defined as the importance of the relationship between man and nature.
The Ages of Man, an open exhibition to all beliefs
Art always touches something inside us, and the plot lines of the exhibitions of The Ages of Man always go beyond the Catholic faith, like the previous wonderful exhibition “Reconciliare” Who does not need to be reconciled? With God, with his fellows, with the world in general … or with oneself.
Also on this occasion, the Ages of Man is a fantastic opportunity to get to know Aguilar de Campoo and its region, a beautiful region where nature, culture and humanism merge.
The Ages of Man 2018, “Mons Dei” is structured in seven chapters and an epilogue.
Chapter I: “I lift my eyes to the mountains”
The mount, anthropological symbol and sacred place in the great religions and by extension in all type of beliefs.
Chapter II: “From Sinai to the Sanctuary”
This chapter covers the relationship of the mountain in the history of Israel.
Chapter III: The Little Cloud of Carmel.
The Marian symbology around the mountain.
Chapter IV: Christ, the mountain of salvation.
The way of Jesus from mount to mount until Easter.
Chapter V: “A city built on top of a hill”
The Church of Jesus founded on the apostles, a mountain that announces, celebrates and communicates salvation to all men.
Chapter VI: The ascent to the mountain of perfection.
The itinerary of the Christian life, described by St. John of the Cross, as an ascent, discarding the wrong and imperfect path, by the narrow path to the mountain where the glory of God dwells.
Chapter VII: “The Lord will prepare a feast for all the peoples in this mountain …”
Mount from which the saints have ascended, who have lived the Eucharist, anticipate the eschatological banquet on the mountain of God. The eternal life where Christ and his Mother precede and wait for us.
Epilogue, ‘Ecclesia Dei’
With the aim that ‘Mons Dei’ has economic repercussion in the whole region, the exhibition will have an epilogue, ‘Ecclesia Dei’, which will be an invitation to tour the closest environment of Aguilar de Campoo, through the enhancement and dissemination of the temples of the north of the provinces of Burgos and Palencia “, with 54 places that are part of the ‘Northern Romanesque Territory System’
As always, the quality of the works exhibited in The Ages of Man is extraordinary, with artists such as Gregorio Fernández, Juan de Juni, El Greco, Alonso Cano, Goya, Berruguete, Alejo de Vahía …
Also it shows host works of palentinos contemporary artists like Ursicino Martinez ‘Ursi’, Antonio Guzmán Capel, with a work made for this exhibition ‘The Sermon on the Mount’ or Luis Mallo with his work ‘Pentecost in Aguilar de Campo’ and other artists Modernists such as Daniel Quintero, Alfonso Galván, Luciano Diez de Castilla and Luis Feo.
A tribute has also been programmed to the Salamanca sculptor Venancio Blanco, recently deceased and who has participated in several editions of The Ages of Man.
The exhibition will also have “a valuable representation of the heritage of other places” so that the show has a national and international scope.
The show will also feature four audiovisual projections and a musical thread by the composer from Palencia, Oscar Martín.
The venues chosen to house the Ages of Man 2018 are two jewels of the Cultural Heritage of the Palencia Mountain. Both temples are located in the urban area of Aguilar de Campoo.
The first two chapters are located in the Church of Santa Cecilia, while the remaining chapters will be exhibited in the Collegiate Church of San Miguel.
The Church of Santa Cecilia
It is no coincidence that the exhibition begins in the Church of Santa Cecilia, located on the slope of the castle, it is a perfect place to look at the mountain of Palencia.
Declared a Historic Artistic Monument in 1963, the Church of Santa Cecilia was built between the XII and XIII centuries in Romanesque style.
It highlights its imposing bell tower, preserved in its original state. It is one of the best exponents of Romanesque towers-bell tower of the Iberian Peninsula.
The Collegiate Church of San Miguel
The origins of the Collegiate Church of San Miguel go back to the Visigothic period, undergoing modifications and reforms until the 15th century.
Although it retains some Romanesque elements, in its current aspect Gothic and Renaissance styles predominate, highlighting its beautiful Herrerian tower, visible from all the streets of the town.
It also highlights its impressive Gothic headboard and its formidable Renaissance altarpiece.
The exhibition takes place from May 10 until the first weekend of November.
