In the municipality of La Vall d’Ebo, located in the Marina Alta region northeast of the province of Alicante are numerous deposits of rupestrian paintings inside the caves of the area . These paintings and engravings are protected by UNESCO under the declaration of World Heritage of Humanity. The one that stands out among the different deposits is the cave “El Abrigo de les Torrunades”, this cave is a special place because its rupestrian paintings are spectacular and for the wonderful views of the valley, that can be seen from the cave.
This deposit of La Vall d’Ebo was one of the most unknown to the public and today is protected by a fence to ensure their conservation. Although you can approach to see the paintings that have been there for thousands of years without altering this archaeological treasure.
It is also to highlight another deposit called El Santuario de Cova Fosca in La Vall d’Ebo. This is an important deposit of Paleolithic with traces of human presence in prehistory.
On it have been found significant engravings and paintings of Art Levantino dating from 10,000 BC. “El Santuario de la Cova Fosca” is the oldest prehistoric deposit documented in the province of Alicante.
