The Donostia Naval Museum in is located since its inauguration in 1991 in the old House Tower of Consulate, dating from the eighteenth century. This House Tower was created by the Consulate to monitor port activities and the different services such as the entrance and exit of ships, the maritime rescue, taxation or the control of loading and unloading of the ships between other services.

Donostia Naval Museum originates as a study center, conservation and diffusion of Basque maritime history
In the origins the Donostia Naval Museum the two main floors were occupied by the permanent exhibitions. Here was showed the relationship of the Basque Country with the sea and shipbuilding . On the top floor of the museum were installed the administration services, the document archive, the library and video library , along with a multipurpose room for permanent exhibitions and workshops.
Later in 2007 the Donostia Naval Museum was rearranged and the permanent exhibition was disassembled, allocating the space that occupied by the permanent exhibition for temporary exhibitions of long duration. Thus, the space that was destined for temporary exhibitions is now used for educational workshops and smaller exhibitions.

Until November 19, 2016 you can visit the exhibition of its own production “Women and the Sea”, which discloses the relationship that women have had with the sea throughout the history without forgetting the place that occupied from ancient times in the imagination and mythology of the maritime world.

In addition to the production of exhibitions, the Museum develops other areas of actuation such as : restoration and protection of maritime heritage, educational activities, research, publications. The museum also has a library specialized in maritime theme open to anyone that is interested in a study of its funds.
The Donostia Naval Museum also makes available for the families the “Annual Family Card” that allows a number of advantages besides being able to participate in various activities organized by the museum. More information about the annual Family Card.
The Donostia Naval Museum can be visited throughout the year except on Mondays and on the 1st, 6th and 20thJanuary and 25 December. On the 24th and 31st of December from 10.00 to 14.00 31.
Schedule:
Tuesday to Saturday from 10:00 to 14:00 and 16:00 to 19:00 h.
Sundays and bank holidays from 11.00 to 14.00.
